The continuing battle with addiction and the drug epidemic’s toll on the Washington County community is a significant part of a new movie, “Surviving the Hill,” according to a news release from the county health department.
The movie will premier Saturday at 6 p.m. at The Maryland Theatre, 21 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. It will later be offered on streaming services.
Residents in recovery and those who have overcome addiction will join Washington County Health Department, local and state officials and law enforcement officers on screen, alongside Stephen Hill, bestselling author, recovery coach and attorney who advocates for treatment over incarceration for those caught up in the plight of substance abuse.

Hill is a national speaker on substance use prevention and mental health awareness and founder of Speak Sobriety, according to a news release from the health department. He was the keynote speaker at the kick-off event during last September’s Washington Goes Purple Recovery Month.
“Surviving the Hill” is produced by Supernatural Inc. Films, with director and writer Janol Mecca Holmes.
Tickets for the movie premiere’s limited seats are $15 each, with all proceeds going to the Washington Goes Purple scholarship fund, through the Community Foundation of Washington County.
